Hajjar Competition

Brief: To design a landscape artist studio/retreat.
The concept for the design is tabula rasa, the mind space in which it is hypothetically at an empty state before receiving impressions. This cabin- studio, located at 281 Osmond Street, State College, Pennsylvania, is designed to a be a retreat from the hubbub of the outside world. An intimate environment where a landscape artist can immerse themself in nature and regard the world in a new light with a clear mindset.
The form is based on an easel and the spaces within the cabin are broken into thirds, much like a piece of art is broken into foreground, middle ground and background. The studio/workspace faces North to prevent glare on the artwork. The social spaces of the cabin face North East to get sunlight during the day.
